Chapter 1:  3

1:3  Who is there among you of all his people? his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of the LORD God of Israel, (he is the God,) which is in Jerusalem

  Israel had been in exile for many years in Babylon. The mighty temple built by Solomon had been destroyed and the people were given permission to go home and renovate or rebuild the temple. Ezra's question to Israel was simple: "Who amongst you is willing to go up to Jerusalem and help rebuild the temple of God?" Many came forth to answer that challenge. Bringing their gifts and sacrifices they made the journey home and completely renovated the building and restored it so well that it was a sight to see and a testament to the greatness of God.
